Highlights From Track & Field’s Trip to War Eagle Invitational

AUBURN – The Tulane University outdoor track & field team competed in the War Eagle Invitational this weekend in Auburn, Ala.
23 Green Wave athletes, 20 women and three men, went up against some of the top teams in the country and claimed four top-five finishes while setting several personal records.
Tulane now has 15 athletes who are in the top 12 in the AAC in at least one event.
Graduate student Kara Steele took a podium in the triple jump, finishing third with a personal record 12.56m jump, the seventh best mark in Green Wave history.
Graduate student Therese Olshanski ran PRs in both the 1500m (4:28.63) and the 800m (2:13.05). Olshanski placed fifth in the 1550m and 11th in the 800m. Olshanski's 1500m was also the fourth fastest all-time for a Tulane runner.
Sophomore Janae Dean finished fifth in the 800m, running a personal record of 2:10.58.
The women's 4x400m relay team, that was made up of Janae Dean, Oneke Gwan, Victoria Robinson, and Louise Jones, placed fourth at the meet with a time of 3:48.78.
Junior Evans Kipchumba ran a personal record of 14:52.24 in the 5000m, good for a 15th place finish and ninth all-time for a Tulane athlete.
Freshman Arturs Lapins, who is regionally ranked in the steeple chase, ran two lifetime beats in the 800m (1:58.74) and 1500m (3:57.60). Lapins placed 12th in the 1500m.
Sophomore Bethwel Tum also PRed in both the 800m (1:57.35) and 1500m (4:02.24).
Margot Temines ran the seventh fastest 100m hurdles in Tulane history with a time of 14.35 seconds.
UP NEXT: The team heads to the ULM Invitational in Monroe on Saturday, April 23.
