Tulane Sailing Takes Top Two Spots in the Garner-Tullis Team Race

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University sailing COED and women's teams landed in first and second place, respectively, in the Garner-Tullis Team Race on Lake Pontchartrain. The Green Wave COED squad finished first among the six teams competing with an overall record of 19-1 while the Tulane women's crew followed with a second-place finish posting a 16-4 record.
The Wave COED crew posted rounds of 4-1 and 5-0 on day two to claim the top spot in the regatta. Tulane notched two wins over Jacksonville, Old Dominio, South Florida and Miami while splitting a pair of races with the Green Wave women's team on Sunday. Skippers Thad Lettsome, Cameron Giblin, Asher Zittrer and William Keenan along with crews Ellie Spearman, Alex Makoid, Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez and Grace Siwicki led Tulane to its first-place finish in the Garner-Tullis Team Race with an overall record of 19-1 on the weekend.
The Tulane women's team recorded rounds of 5-0 and 3-2 on the final day of the regatta to post a second-place finish behind the Green Wave COED team. The Wave earned two wins over Jacksonville, South Florida and Miami on the day while splitting with the Tulane COED squad and Old Dominion. With skippers Caroline Benson, Mia Hanes and Ciara Rodriguez-Horan working alongside crews Abigail Borggaard, Lydia Brown, Essie Clifton, Gillian Perrell and Lucy Spearman the Green Wave finished second of the six team in the regatta with an overall record of 16-4.
Up next, the Green Wave sailing team will host the SEISA Team Race Championships on April 9-10 on the waters of Lake Pontchartrain.
