Golf Finishes Ninth at NCAA Regionals
May 12, 2022 | Women's Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. - The Tulane women's golf team concluded a historic season at the Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma on Wednesday. The team finished ninth in a field of 12, with freshman Carla Bernat finishing in the top ten, nearly clinching a spot at the NCAA Championships.
"I'm proud of what this group was able to achieve this year," head coach Stew Burke said. "They were resilient in the face of adversity and stuck to the plan of returning Tulane Golf to the NCAA's. I'm excited to be returning our AAC Championship winning team next year and continue to have great depth pushing from within our roster. The future is bright as we continue our rebuild of this great program."
Bernat finished at the top individual for Tulane, tied for tenth at three-over-par. The freshman earned herself a spot in a four-way playoff for an individual qualifying spot in the NCAA Championships. Bernat's 10th place finish is the highest for a Tulane golfer since Madsion Opfer finished third at the NCAA Women's Golf East Regional in 2013.
Sandra Vazquez finished tied for 39th at +17, Matilde Innocenti finished tied for 43rd at +19, Cleo Liu came in +24 in 51st and Carlota Palacios finished +24 in 65th.
"It was a great year for the ladies and we enjoyed seeing Tulane at the top of the leaderboard more than once this season," assistant coach Rinko Mitsunaga said. "We have a special group that loves to compete and support one another."
Their regional appearance was the first for Tulane since 2016. With all five girls and alternate Miriam Emmert returning to the Wave next season, the Wave has a lot to look forward to next season.
