Dear Next Wave,
Congratulations on your commitment to Tulane University. You should be extremely proud that you are able to become part of this institution. The opportunity that lies ahead of you is much deeper than you may expect. The ability to not only compete at the highest level but also get a world-class education is something that few people will ever understand. There is a lot that goes into being successful both on and off the field but there is no better place to learn these lessons. I hope you are excited to get here and ready to experience the beauty of this process.
I first arrived at Tulane in the summer of 2019 without really knowing what to expect. I heard that school was going to be hard and was not sure if I made the right decision. After my first class, I realized that I was going to be fine but that it was going to require more effort. This is not meant to scare you but show what you are actually capable of achieving. I'm proud to tell you three years later, I will be walking away as a graduate of Tulane while maintaining a GPA above 3.0 for every semester I was here.
While I do value the education, being a part of the baseball team is what truly made my time the best. If everyone was able to experience in their life as to what it is like in a college locker room, we would have way less problems in the world. You meet these strangers from all over the country and despite the differences that everyone may have, they literally become your best friends. While it may not seem important at the time, having people to rely on is one of the best feelings you can have. I would not be telling the truth to say that everything is going to go exactly how you planned because there are going to be struggles. Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way and discovered that it is the people that make this experience.
You are going to be in good hands under these people on the Athletics staff. They will look out for you and provide guidance for how to get to where you want. Use every resource that they will provide and make the most of your time.
Most importantly, enjoy it.
