
Baseball Wins Series With 9-5 Sunday Victory Over USF

With the game tied at three in the seventh inning, Tulane exploded for three runs on a Jason Wachs three-run home run. The home run was his team leading eighth of the season and gave Tulane a lead that would not be relinquished the rest of the afternoon.
One day after picking up the save, Trey Cehajic (3-5) earned the win with 2.2 innings of strong relief. He surrendered three runs on four hits with two strikeouts, but two of the runs allowed came in to score in the ninth with Tulane holding a six-run advantage. LuisPablo Navarro started the game on the mound and threw the first 2.2 innings with just two hits allowed and a walk while recording two strikeouts. Jack Brafa followed with 3.1 scoreless out of the bullpen. Brafa allowed just two hits and one walk with one strikeout. Tom Vincent was only able to retire one man before allowing two runs and giving way to Cehajic.
Wachs led the offense with two hits, two runs scored, three RBIs, and two walks. Tye Wood totaled a pair of hits plus had an RBI, and a run scored. Matthias Haas picked up a hit and a walk. Trent Liolios totaled a hit and an RBI. Brett Rowell had an RBI pinch hit double. Hugh Pinkney walked twice. Nate Johnson had a hit. James Agabedis hit his sixth home run of the season to drive in a run. Kaikea Harrison had a hit and a run scored. Tanner Chun totaled two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs including his first home run of the season.
USF's Landon Yorek (1-2) was tagged with the loss after not being able to retire a man and allowing a pair of runs in the seventh inning.
Tulane scored first with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single to right field by Liolios to score Wachs.
The Green Wave added a run to the advantage, 2-0, in the second on a Wood double to score Chun.
The game stayed 2-0 Tulane until the sixth when Agabedis added a solo home run to the advantage to put the score at 3-0.
USF tied the game in the seventh, 3-3, on a two-run home run from Nathan Earley followed by an RBI single from Bradke Lowry.
Tulane wrestled the lead back in the bottom of the seventh, 6-3, on the three-run home run from Wachs.
The Green Wave added three runs to the advantage, 9-3, in the eighth on Chun's two-run home run. It was his first home run of the season on the eighth pitch of the at-bat after he fouled off five prior attempts. Rowell followed with a pinch hit RBI double right down the first base line to score pinch runner Bryson Ayala.
USF made the final score 9-5 as Lance Trippel drove in the game's final two runs in the ninth with a two-run single.
Next, Tulane plays the final conference series of the season and takes on Rice starting on Thursday, May 14, at 6:35 p.m. in Houston, Texas.
