Football Pulls Off Shocking 17-10 Upset Win over Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kansas – The Tulane football team (3-0) took to the road for the first time this season and came away with a huge 17-10 victory over Kansas State (2-1) at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on Saturday. It was the first win for Tulane over a Power Five Conference school since 2010 when the program defeated Rutgers on the road by a 17-14 score.
Michael Pratt led the effort for the Green Wave in going 13-for-26 for 176 yards and a touchdown through the air. He also ran 13 times for a career-high 87 yards to lead the running attack. Iverson Celestine picked up 14 carries for 52 yards. Tyjae Spears had nine carries for 26 yards and a touchdown. Duece Watts led the team with 60 yards receiving on his three catches. Dea Dea McDougle picked up three catches for 58 yards. Shae Wyatt totaled a pair of catches for 31 yards. Tyrick James had a pair of catches for 11 yards, including the go-ahead four-yard touchdown with 4:11 remaining in the contest. Casey Glover punted seven times and averaged 41.9 yards a kick plus had one downed inside the 20.
The Green Wave defense was led by six tackles from Nick Anderson, Dorian Williams, Jesus Machado and Macon Clark. Clark and Anderson each had a tackle for loss. Jadon Canady picked up four tackles including a stop for loss. Defensive linemen Tylo Phillips, Patrick Jenkins and Devean Deal also all had a tackle for loss.
Tulane picked up 18 first downs, 160 yards rushing and 176 yards through the air. The program's defense helped limit the Kansas State offense to a total of 336 yards and go 2-for-15 on third down
Tulane began the scoring as Spears rumbled in from a yard out to complete an impressive nine play, 91-yard drive and gave the Green Wave a 7-0 lead with 3:13 remaining in the first quarter. Kansas State scored all 10 points in the second quarter to a take a slim lead into the break. The Tulane defense came up with a big fourth down stop by Lance Robinson to start the second half. The Green Wave offense quickly capitalized with a seven play, 53-yard drive, finished off by the 30-yard field goal from Kriston Esnard to tie the game. Tulane took the lead for good as Pratt connected with James to put Tulane up 17-10 with just over four minutes remaining in the game.
Tulane's next returns home to host Southern Miss on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Yulman Stadium
