Sep 30, 2022 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's tennis team will send four student-athletes to compete in the ITA Women's All-American Championships this weekend, beginning on Saturday in Cary, North Carolina. Kristen Borland, Adelaide Lavery, Charlotte Russell and Lahari Yelamanchili earned bids to play in either the Pre-Qualifying, Qualifying or Main Draw.
Â
This is the first time in Tulane history the Green Wave has had a doubles team in the main draw, a doubles team in the pre-qualifying round, and a singles player in the pre-qualifying round.
Â
The Tulane doubles duo of Borland and Lavery will take to the court first at the ITA All-American Championships in Pre-Qualifying Doubles on Saturday. Borland and Lavery are among 32 doubles teams set to compete in the Pre-Qualifying Doubles.
Â
Yelamanchili will be the only member of the Green Wave to compete in singles as she earned a bid to play in Pre-Qualifying Singles. She will open play in that draw, consisting of 96 players, on Saturday. The Burr Ridge, Illinois, native will try to post the best finish the Wave has had in singles in the All-American Championships since 2003 when Julie Smekdub reached the quarterfinals of the main draw.
Â
The Green Wave pairing of Russell and Yelamanchili will highlight the weekend for Tulane as they will compete in the ITA All-American Championships Main Draw, beginning on Tuesday. The duo enters the tournament ranked No. 14 in the Preseason Doubles Division I Women's ITA Collegiate Tennis National Rankings. Russell and Yelamanchili are the first players to qualify for the main draw in singles or doubles for Tulane since Nancy Kockott in 2004.
