Track & Field Continues Indoor Campaign with Trip to Alabama for Samford Meets Starting on Thursday

NEW ORLEANS – After a solid performance in Kentucky last weekend, the Tulane indoor track & field program tries to keep the momentum with a trip to Birmingham, Alabama to participate in the Samford Multis and Invitational from January 19-20 at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Thursday is the start of the women's multis at 9:25 a.m. with the women's 60m hurdles. Friday is the start of the Samford Invitational at 10 a.m. with the women's weight throw.

The running events start with the women's 5,000m later that morning at 11 a.m. The men's first event is the 5,000m at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

The Green Wave also rank in the top 10 in the American Athletic Conference in the women's 400m (Victoria Robinson – 9thh), men's 800m (Jalen St. Fort – 3rd and Roman Schrader – 7th), women's 800m (Sophia McNerney – 2nd, Victoria Robinson – 3rd, Janae Dean – 4th, Reese Ragland – 5th, Brianna Kirsch – 10th), the women's mile (Mackenzie Callahan – 5th), the women's 60m hurdles (Kristen O'Handley – 6th), the men's 4x400m (4th), the women's 4x400m relay (7th), the women's distance medley relay (1st), the men's pole vault (Parker Samuelson - 9th), the women's pole vault (Alexandra Potts – 1st, Kate Sander – 7th, Kristina Leggas – 7th), the women's triple jump (Kara Steele – 2nd) and the women's shot put (Maren Butler – 2nd, Margot Temines – 9th, Alyssa Dismuke- 10th).
Last time out at the Rod McCravy Memorial, the team totaled an event win, three second place finishes, a third-place ranking and a total of 13 that ended in the top-10.
Mackenzie Callahan ran a 4:55.46 to win the mile and beat an Ohio State All-American that was in the field.
Maren Butler just missed a personal record (pr) in placing second in the shot put (14.50m).
Kara Steele set a new personal record in finishing second in the triple jump (12.49m).
Sophia McNerney finished second in the 800m with 2:13.11.
Alexandra Potts placed third in the pole vault with a 3.87m.
Janae Dean earned third in the 600m (1:35.17).
Other top-10 finishes for Tulane include Kaia Todd (triple jump – ninth – 11.20m), Reese Ragland (800m – fifth – 2:15.29), the 4x400m relay team of Dean, Callahan, Victoria Robinson and Alexis Esteves finishing 10th in their event with a time of 3:56.47, Kate Sander (pole vault – sixth – 3.57m), Kristina Leggas (pole vault – eighth – 3.57m), Megan Fitzgerald (pole vault – 10th – 3.42), the distance medley relay team of Sophia McNerney, Ragland, Macy Turcotte and Esteves earned fifth with 12:18.63.
Next, the program travels to Boston for a pair of meets in the city. The program sends a delegation to compete in the Bruce Lehane Scarlett and White Invitational on the campus of Boston University starting on Feb. 3. The program will also send a group to participate in the Crimson Elite at Harvard University that same weekend.
