
The Green Wave Falls to SMU

NEW ORLEANS- The Tulane volleyball team (6-21) was defeated by the top-ranked AAC squad, SMU (20-6), 3-0.
The offensive effort was led by outside hitter, Avery Burks. The freshman finished the match with 10 kills. Outside hitter Ilayda Demirtas, followed with five kills.
The Green Wave defense finished the match with six total blocks. Freshman middle blocker Jordan White led the blocking front with four total blocks.ย
The Mustangs got up to a quick 2-0 lead in the first set. Tulane kept within striking distance and tied the match at 5-5. The Green Wave was able to keep within four or less until the score was 16-15. SMU scored four back-to-back unanswered points and led by four or more for the remainder of the set. The Mustangs took the first set, 25-19.ย
SMU started the second set much like the first by going up by two. The Green Wave kept within striking distance at 13-10, but SMU went on a 4-0 run and led for the remainder of the set. Tulane fell, 25-13.
In the third set, the Green Wave started off one point behind the Mustangs at 3-2. SMU went on a five-point scoring run and stretched the deficit to six. Tulane was unable to muster momentum and trailed by five or more for the remainder of the set. The Mustangs took the set and finished the match, 25-13.
