
Track & Field To Start the 2023-24 Campaign at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker On Friday

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane indoor track & field program begins the 2023-24 season with a trip to Birmingham, Alabama to participate in the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker on Friday starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Birmingham Crossplex. The team will also be represented at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday in Boston.
The program is expected to send six men (Mason Wong, Francisco Roman III, Lee Harris, Zander Dunbar, Sam Cohen and Dekel Regev) to the Icebreaker meet. The Tulane women will send a delegation of 19 that are expected to make their season debut in Alabama (Brianna Kirsch, Emma Simons, Shamiso Zihumo, Laura Fodor, Sofie Groninger, Kaia Todd, Alexis Esteves, Karlijin Schouten, Anna Schadel, Amanda Soldan, Norah Bice, Sofia Caruso, Bella Gonzalez, Patricija Ozolina, Robyn Larkan, Bella Carroll, Alyssa Taylor, Brenda Ellis and Elena Liano-Rengel).
The running events on Friday begin at 8:30 a.m. with the women's and men's 60h preliminaries. The field events start at 9 a.m. with the men's weight throw.
The program will also send Jack Jennings as a solo participant at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener this Saturday in Boston, Massachusetts at the BU Track and Tennis Center. Jennings will compete in the seeded 5000m. The meet is the most prestigious event that is being competed during the opening weekend of indoor season. Jennings races against some of the elite runners nationally at 5:25 p.m.
During indoor season for the 2022-23 school year, the Tulane women had a total of four All-Conference AAC members in Kara Steele (1st – triple jump), Mackenzie Callahan (2nd - mile), Victoria Robinson (2nd – 800m) and Kristen O'Handley (1st – Pentathlon). Tulane placed fourth overall during indoor season, with 65.5 points, which was the highest-ever finish for the program in the AAC. O'Handley ended the year by achieving All-American status in the Pentathlon. During outdoor season, the Tulane women placed sixth overall with 63 points. The finish was Tulane's best since 2016. The Tulane men finished eighth during outdoor season with 26 points. The program totaled nine All-Conference selections during outdoor season in Janae Dean (1st – women's 800m), Victoria Robinson (3rd – women's 800m), Kara Steele (3rd – women's triple jump), Mackenzie Callahan (3rd - women's 1500m), Aaron Gilliam (3rd – men's 1500m), Bradley Makuvire (3rd – men's 5,000m), Mackenzie Callahan (2nd – women's 3000m steeplechase), Maren Butler (3rd – women's shot put), Margot Temines (3rd – women's heptathlon). Kristen O'Handley ended the outdoor season by achieving All-American status in the Heptathlon.
Next, the program takes a break for the holidays and returns to the track from Jan. 12-13 at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Louisville, Kentucky.
