Fynn Wins, but Green Wave Falls at LSU
Feb 11, 2023 | Men's Tennis
BATON ROUGE, LA – Tulane's top singles player Fynn Kuenkler picked up a three-set win over LSU's Ronald Hohmann but it was the Tigers who came out with the overall 6-1 victory Saturday afternoon at the LSU Tennis Center.
Kuenkler, ranked #110 nationally, won the match 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 over his 27th-ranked opponent.
The Green Wave's No. 2 doubles team of Billy Suarez and Luka Petrovic also won their match 7-5 over the LSU's Welsh Hotard and Chen Dong.
However, the Tigers won at Nos. 1 and 3 and took the Nos. 2-6 singles matches for the final tally.
"Unfortunately, some inconsistencies today kept us from closing out games or sets to create the needed momentum," said Tulane head coach Mark Booras. "We were able to play at a high level at times, but not as consistently as we had been the last few matches. Sometimes that comes from the other team breaking you down or sometimes it's from not trusting yourself what to do. Today, I feel like it was more from us and we didn't step up to those challenges like we know how and have done in the past."
LSU improved to 4-1, while Tulane dropped to 1-3.
The Green Wave is back in action next Saturday at Rice for an 11 a.m. start.
