
Tulane Holds Off Cincinnati for Record-Breaking Win for Stockton

CINCINNATI –Tulane University Women's Basketball (16-11, 6-8) Head Coach Lisa Stockton became the winningest women's college basketball coach in the state of Louisiana after the Green Wave defeated Cincinnati (9-17, 2-11) 65-54 on the road Saturday. The Green Wave used a 24-point third quarter to pull away from the Bearcats before closing out the victory from the free throw line in the final frame.
The win marked Stockton's 577th victory at Tulane which surpassed former Louisiana Tech head coach Leon Barmore for the most wins by a women's college basketball coach in the state of Louisiana.
Dynah Jones led the Green Wave in scoring with 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the floor. She also tallied four rebounds and a pair of assists. Anijah Grant and Kierra Middleton each had nine points followed by Marta Galic with eight.
Cincinnati was led by Mya Jackson with 15 points while Jillian Hayes also added eight points and 15 rebounds.
The offense started slowly in the first quarter until Jones went on the attack with 3:21 remaining in the frame. Jones scored the Green Wave's last 10 points in the quarter to put Tulane in the lead 17-12 after the opening 10 minutes.
In the second quarter Tulane and the Bearcats exchanged the lead six times as the teams went back and forth in the final five minutes of the frame. Galic knocked down her second triple of the game with 14 seconds left in the half to send the Wave into the locker room with a 30-28 advantage.
Tulane scored the first six points of the third quarter before Cincinnati responded with six-straight of its own. Middleton provided a spark down the stretch of the third sinking three three-pointers including one to beat the buzzer and put the Green Wave up 54-41 heading into the fourth.
Cincinnati mounted a response to open the final frame scoring seven unanswered before eventually cutting the Wave's lead to four with two minutes remaining. Jones and Rachel Hakes worked together to keep the Bearcats at bay and put the game away from the charity stripe. Tulane ultimately secured the victory 65-54.
Up next, the Green Wave will return home to celebrate Senior Day and play host to East Carolina on Saturday. Tipoff between Tulane and the Pirates is set for 2 p.m. CT.
