
Indoor Track & Field Has A Strong Opening Day at the AAC Indoor Championships

Kristen O’Handley Wins The Pentathlon With School / Conference Meet Record 4,175 points
Day 1 Results
Birmingham, Alabama – Kristen O'Handley's school and meet record victory in the pentathlon led a strong team effort for the Tulane women's indoor track & field team on the first day of the American Athletic Conference Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The team currently sits in fourth place with 27.5 points after the first six events.
O'Handley totaled 4,175 points in winning the event and setting both a new AAC indoor meet and school record. It was the third time that she has set the Tulane pentathlon record this season. It was also the second time that she is All-AAC in the pentathlon during her indoor career as she took home the second last season. O'Handley set personal bests in all five events this year. She won the 800m with a 2:15.94 and the long jump with a 5.74m. O'Handley finished as the runner-up in the shot put (11.74m) and placed third in the high jump (1.71m) and in the 60m hurdles (8.52).
Her teammate Margot Temines finished just out of the medals in the pentathlon placing fourth with 3,908 points. Temines was second in the long jump (5.68m), third in the shot put (11.51m), fifth in the high jump (1.68m), sixth in the 800m (2:24.36) and eighth in the 60m hurdles (8.90).
Laura Fodor also finished in the top 10 for Tulane in the final pentathlon rankings in placing eighth with 3,568 points. Patricija Ozolina earned 16th overall with 3,330 points while Kaia Todd finished 19h with 3,223 points.
Victoria Robinson won the preliminaries of the 800m with a 2:09.74. She will now advance to the finals of the event on Saturday. Janae Dean also qualified for Saturday's finals of the 800m in placing sixth in the preliminaries with a 2:11.07.
Mackenzie Callahan won the preliminaries of the mile run with a 4:54.57 and will run on Saturday in the finals.
Alexandra Potts finished just out of the medals in taking fourth in the pole vault (3.84m). Kristina Leggas, Kate Sander and Megan Fitzgerald all tied for seventh with a 3.69m.
The distance medley relay team of Callahan, Alexis Esteves, Robinson and Allison Nelson placed fifth in their event (11:47.58).
Sophia McNerney ran a season-best of 17:26.82 in earning 15th in the 5000m. Macy Turcotte finished 28th in the event (18:23.59).
Next, the program continues to compete on the second day of the AAC Indoor Championships starting at 9:45 a.m. Among the events that will be contested are the women's high jump, the women's triple jump, the women's shot put, the women's 3000m, the women's 4x400m relay, the finals of the women's mile and the finals for the women's 800m.
