
Tulane Wraps Up First Day of Racing Out East

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Sailing finished the first day of races for a pair of road regattas this weekend on Friday. The Green Wave coed team landed in second out nine teams at the end of the first day at the Bob Bavier Open Team Race while the Wave women's team sits in seventh in the St. Mary's Women's Team Race.

In Charleston, South Carolina, Tulane sits in second place with a 10-2 record behind Coast Guard at 11-1 following the first day of racing at the Bob Bavier Open Team Race. Skippers Cameron Giblin, Asher Zittrer, Thad Lettsome, and Peter Foley teamed with crews Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez, Gillian Perrell, and Alex Makoid to earn two wins over Navy, Vermont, and South Florida. The Wave also recorded wins over Miami, Florida State, College of Charleston, and Stanford.

Through the opening day of races, the Green Wave landed in seventh out of 12 teams competing in the St. Mary's Women's Team Race. Tulane finished the first round of the regatta with a 5-6 record notching wins over Cornell, St. Mary's, Old Dominion, Hobart & William, and South Florida. Representing the Wave on the water on the first day of racing were skippers Caroline Benson, Mia Hanes, and Ciara Rodriguez-Horan alongside crews Megan Cassidy, Abigail Borggaard, Anne Richards, Essie Clifton, Catherine Anderson, and Lydia Brown. Stanford sits in first in the regatta at 11-0.

The Green Wave be back on the water Sunday morning to finish competition in the Bob Bavier Open Team Race and the St. Mary's Women's Team Race. Tulane will try to overtake Coast Guard for the top spot in the Bob Bavier Open Team Race in the final 15 races of the regatta beginning at 9 a.m. CT. Meanwhile, the Wave will compete in the Silver Round at the St. Mary's Women's Team Race starting at 9 a.m. CT.
