NEW ORLEANS – The #41 Tulane men's tennis team continued its torrid stretch in dominant fashion Sunday afternoon at City Park Tennis Center, drilling #15 Auburn 4-1 before blanking visiting Nicholls 4-0.
The Green Wave is now 7-5 overall, winning eight of its last nine (on-court) matches.
Against the Tigers, the Olive and Blue's Charlie Barry and Benji Jacobson clinched the doubles point with a scintillating 7-4 tiebreaker victory after Fynn Kuenkler and Luka Petrovic also secured a 6-4 win at No. 2.
In singles, Luc Hoeijmans was the first to win at No. 4 (6-2, 6-3) and Luke Petrovic soon followed with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 2.
Auburn's Tyler Stice, ranked #124 nationally, registered the visitors' only point when he picked up a victory at No. 1. However, Tulane's Rafael de Alba went to two tiebreakers for the match-clincher at No. 6: 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-5).
Against Nicholls, Barry and Jacobson won 6-1 at No. 1, while Billy Suarez and Hoeijmans earned a 6-0 win at No. 3 to take the doubles for Tulane.
In singles, Petrovic (6-2, 6-1), Hoeijmans (6-1, 6-0) and Charlie Barry (6-0, 6-2) all earned straight-set victories to salt away another TU team win.
Before both of Sunday's matches, all coaches agreed to stop the unfinished singles contests once one team reached four team points.
The Green Wave will play three matches next weekend at the San Diego Invitational in a field that is expected to feature several of the nation's top teams. The full draw will be released next week once the ITA reveals its updated rankings on Tuesday.
