Tulane Sweeps Through Bayou Beach Duals

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Beach Volleyball went unblemished in the Bayou Beach Duals, going 2-0 with a pair of sweeps over in-state foes on Thursday to improve to 13-5 on the season. The Green Wave began the day with a 5-0 win over cross-town rival New Orleans before capping the day with a 5-0 victory over Southeastern Louisiana.

The Bayou Beach Duals opened with the Crescent City matchup of Tulane against UNO. In position four Abby Jackson and Ashton Mares paired together to put the Wave on the board first, winning in straight sets 21-15, 21-12. Lara Torruella and Molly Trodd quickly followed to put Tulane up 2-0 taking their match in position five 21-15, 21-13. The match against the Privateers was clinched from position one by Mollie Ebertin and Kendall Peters with a two-set victory 21-13, 21-17. Tulane tacked on another win from the pairing of Emily Heintzelman and Samantha Mehlman in position two to make it 4-0. Sara Hall and Maddie Speicher delivered the sweep from position three with a three-set victory. Â

In its second match of the day, the Green Wave squared off against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. This time it was the duo of Simone Gibson and Torruella that got Tulane out to the early lead with a two-set victory, 21-16, 21-11, from position four. Tulane went up 2-0 after the freshman pairing of Trodd and Sam O'Connor earned a win in straight sets 21-19, 21-16. The match against the Lions was secured by Jackson and Mares in position three in two sets 21-9, 21-19. The Wave added another point courtesy of Hall and Speicher from position two before Heintzelman and Mehlman claimed the second sweep of the day for Tulane from court one.

Up next, the Green Wave will head out west for back-to-back tournaments. Tulane will compete in the Cal Poly Invitational Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2, before heading up the California coast to play in the Stanford Invitational Wednesday, April 5.
