Green Wave Set for Two Weekend Regattas
Mar 24, 2023 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Sailing returns to the road once again this weekend as it competes in separate regattas in Maryland and Virginia on Saturday and Sunday. The Green Wave coed team will take part in the Aaron Szambecki Open Team Race in Norfolk, Virginia, while the Wave women's team will race in the Jen Harris Women's Team Race in Annapolis, Maryland.
Â
Tulane finished second out of 10 teams at the Aaron Szambecki Open Team Race hosted by Old Dominion last year. The Green Wave will hit the waters of the Elizabeth River this weekend against nine other teams, four of which are ranked in the Sail1Design Rankings top-16 along with Tulane. The following teams will be represented in the regatta alongside Tulane: College of Charleston, Fordham, George Washington, Georgetown, Old Dominion, Roger Williams, South Florida, St. Mary's College of Maryland, and Tufts.
Â
The Green Wave also competed in the Jen Harris Women's Team Race last year, but no official score was recorded because the event fell one race short due to weather delays and course changes. This year the Wave will be one of six teams ranked in the latest Sail1Design College Rankings poll to hit the water for the regatta. Eight total teams will compete in this year's Jen Harris Women's Team Race including College of Charleston, Cornell, Dartmouth, George Washington, Georgetown, Navy, Tulane, and Penn. The regatta will be hosted by Navy on the waters of the Severn River on Saturday and Sunday.
Â
Following this weekend's action, the Green Wave will host its second home regatta of the season in the Nelson Roltsch Open Team Race April 1-2. Tulane will also compete in the Dellenbaugh Women's Team Race the same weekend in Providence, Rhode Island.
