Tulane Hosts Nelson Roltsch Regatta, Women’s Team Travels to Rhode Island

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Sailing is set to host its second home regatta of the spring this weekend while also sending its women's team to compete in Providence, Rhode Island. The Green Wave coed squad will hold the fifth Nelson Roltsch Open Team Race on the waters of Lake Pontchartrain and the Wave women's team will race in the Dellenbaugh Women's Team Race hosted by Brown University on Saturday and Sunday.

Tulane finished first out of six teams in the Nelson Roltsch Open Team Race last year. The Green Wave is the lone ranked team in the field for the regatta coming in as the No. 12 team in the latest Sail1Design College Open Rankings. The other teams competing with Tulane on the waters of Lake Pontchartrain this weekend will be Eckerd, Jacksonville, and South Florida. Racing is set to begin at 10 a.m. CT both days.

Up in Rhode Island, the Green Wave will compete in the Dellenbaugh Women's Team Race for the first time. The regatta will feature 12 teams, 11 of which are ranked in the Sail1Design College Women Rankings including Tulane at No. 7. The Wave will race against No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Yale, No. 3 Brown, No. 4 Harvard, No. 5 Boston College, No. 6 Dartmouth, No. 10 MIT, No. 11 Coast Guard, No. 12 College of Charleston, No. 15 Bowdoin, and South Florida. Competition will be held on the waters of the Providence River Saturday and Sunday.

Following this weekend's action, the Green Wave will return to action April 15-16 with a pair of regattas. Tulane will host the SEISA Team Race Championships on Lake Pontchartrain and compete in the Truxton-Umsted Open Fleet Race hosted by Navy.
