
Three Meets For Outdoor Track & Field This Week

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane outdoor track and field program has a busy week on the schedule as the program participates in three meets in two states. The team starts the week with the women's pole vaulters participating in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on April 13 at Jack Rose Track in Long Beach, California. The program also takes part in the Bryan Clay Invitational from April 13-15. The meet is held on the campus of Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California at Cougar Athletic Stadium. The team will also compete closer to home at the Strawberry Relays at the Southeastern Louisiana Track Complex on April 15.
On Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Bradley Makuvire (men's 10,000m), Mackenzie Callahan (women's 3,000m steeplechase), Allison Nelson (women's 3000m steeplechase) and Arturs Lapins (men's 3000m steeplechase) all compete. Also, on Thursday at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Alexandra Potts (women's pole vault), Megan Fitzgerald (women's pole vault), Kate Sander (women's pole vault) and Kristina Leggas (women's pole vault) all are expected to be in action.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday, Victoria Robinson (women's 800m), Janae Dean (women's 800m, Abigail Heck (women's 800m), Roman Schrader (men's 800m), Zander Dunbar (men's 800m), Jalen St. Fort (men's 800m), Tucker Poshard (men's 5000m), Harper Shaw (women's 5000m) will all be on the docket.
On Saturday at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Mackenzie Callahan (women's 1500m), Macy Turcotte (women's 1500m), Reese Ragland (women's 1500m), Aaron Gilliam (men's 1500m), Victoria Robinson (women's 400m), Janae Dean (women's 400m), Abigail Heck (women's 400m), Roman Schrader (men's 400m), Zander Dunbar (men's 400m), Jalen St. Fort (men's 400m), Alexandra Potts (women's pole vault), Megan Fitzgerald (women's pole vault), Kate Sander (women's pole vault) and Kristina Leggas (women's pole vault) are all in action.
As of this date, the competition list for the Strawberry Relays have not been released.
The program sent a small delegation to the Lloyd Wills Invitational last weekend, April 8, at LSU. The team had a pair of top-three finishes in the two events that they competed in. Jon Lloyd ranked third in the men's javelin with his throw of 47.09m. In the women's pole vault, Kristina Leggas finished third with a season-best 3.83m. Kate Sander also had a season-best performance with her toss of 3.68m.
Last time the entire team competed was at the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational from March 29 – April 1. AT the meet, Kristen O'Handley set the school record in the Heptathlon at the Texas Relays with 5,652 points. Her personal best was one of 25 set by the program over that weekend. For her outstanding efforts, O'Handley was named the AAC Field Athlete of the Week on April 4. She is the first Tulane female student-athlete to take home a weekly award during outdoor season since 2019. O'Handley is only the seventh Tulane female student-athlete to be recognized by the league with a weekly outdoor track award since 2014. The program also had eight top-three finishes and 25 personal records and 35 top-10 finishes between the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational.
The eight top-three finishes for Tulane include Kristen O'Handley winning the Heptathlon high jump with a 1.71m (5'7.25"), Margot Temines placing third in the Heptathlon shot put (12.84m), Kristen O'Handley earning second in the Heptathlon 200m (23.66), Kaia Todd finishing third in the Heptathlon 100m hurdles (14.62m), Kara Schiek taking third in the javelin (42.26m/138'8"), Patricija Ozolina finishing second in the Heptathlon javelin (39.21m/128'8"), Laura Fodor placing second in the Heptathlon 800m (2:24.16) and Janae Dean earning second in the 800m (2:09.58)
The three that had marks in the top-10 of the Tulane record book include Kristen O'Handley's 5,652 points in the Heptathlon (1st), Mackenzie Callahan's 10:38.10 in the 3000m steeplechase (2nd) and Kara Schiek's 42.26m/138'8" in the javelin (9th).
