Apr 7, 2023 | Baseball
TAMPA, FL – The USF baseball team jumped on top of visiting Tulane and went on to run-rule the Green Wave 15-3 in seven innings Saturday evening in Tampa.
Â
The victory, which evens the series, improved the Bulls' record to 13-19 overall and 3-2 in the American Athletic Conference. The loss dropped the Green Wave to 9-22 and 3-2 in the league.
Â
USF starter Hunter Mink (6-2) went six innings in the victory and yielded just one run on four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Â
Tulane starer Chandler Welch (2-3) couldn't make it out of the second inning, giving up eight runs on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk. He recorded four outs.
Â
For the Bulls, right fielder Daniel Cantu, shortstop Eric Snow and first baseman Rafael Betancourt all drove in three runs apiece. Cantu scored four times.
Â
Tulane center fielder Teo Banks and shortstop Gavin Schulz both had two hits.
Â
The Green Wave scored first Saturday when first baseman Brady Marget drove in designated hitter Brady Hebert with a single through the left side in the top of the first inning.
Â
However, the Bulls responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and seven more in the second. They then tacked four more in the fifth and two in the sixth to grab a 15-1 lead.
Â
Schulz belted his first Tulane homer to right in the seventh and Brayden Morrow scored on a double play later in the inning for the game's final margin.
Â
The rubber match between the two teams will be Saturday at 1 p.m. ET/12 CT.
