May 11, 2023 | Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University Track & Field/Cross Country programs announced on Thursday the hiring of David Silversmith as the Assistant Distance Coach / Track & Field.
"I'd like to thank coach Adrian Myers for this opportunity to join him, Coach Agne, and Coach Matthew in Uptown," Coach Silversmith explained. "Over the past few years as I've gotten to know Adrian, I've developed a high level of respect for him, not just for his ability to develop elite athletes and strong programs, but as a person as well. He is a fantastic leader, and we have a shared goal of bringing Tulane Cross Country and Track to the top of the NCAA through student-athlete mentorship and development. I am eager to begin working with him towards this shared vision. Roll Wave!"
"Coach Silversmith is a proven recruiter, leader, and the right fit for our program and its expectations for the future," Tulane's Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Adrian Myers said. "He understands what to look for in athletes as well as the necessary steps in developing them from good to great. He also understands the value of communication and that if you want to be a successful athlete, you must be willing to do the work and make the sacrifices necessary. So, putting the athlete in the driver's seat to success and understanding that our team success is contingent on the collective. We were both Division II athletes that have coached at low resource programs prior, and as a result know that it's the people that make successful programs. Recruit, retain, and develop elite people is our shared goal. In my time getting to know David over the past couple years and through this process it was very clear that he brings to the table many elements that we need to elevate our program to the top of the American, and to the NCAA stage. I cannot wait to raise our program with Coach Silversmith and the momentum we currently have at our back. Welcome to Uptown Coach and Roll Wave!"
Silversmith comes to Tulane after most recently serving as the University of Louisiana Monroe's Cross Country Coach and as the Assistant Track & Field Coach from February 2020 through May 2023.
He will officially start his position at Tulane following the conclusion of ULM's outdoor season.
During the 2023 indoor campaign his Distance Medley Relay (DMR) group won the event and set the school record at the Sun Belt Conference Championships. He also coached

It was the best showing for the team since joining the conference prior to the 2006 season. Additionally, it was the best performance for the women in program history at a cross country conference meet.
The Warhawk women's cross country team also cracked the USTFCCCA regional rankings for the first time in program history, coming in at No. 14 in the South Central Region on Sept. 21.
Off the track, both the ULM men's and women's teams earned All-Academic Team recognition by the USTFCCCA in the fall of 2021.
Silversmith came to ULM after spending two and a half seasons at UNC Greensboro, where he was the cross country coach and assistant track coach. He helped the Spartans to a third-place finish at the Southern Conference women's cross country championships in 2019, while the men finished in fifth place.
