NEW ORLEANS – The NCAA officially announced on Monday that Kristen O'Handley has qualified for the Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the Heptathlon from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
O'Handley's school-record 5,802 points achieved at the Virginia Challenge on April 20 rank her 10th nationally in the event. She was an NCAA Indoor All-American in the Pentathlon earlier in the spring with a school-record 4,277 points.
The Heptathlon starts on Friday, June 9, at 2:45 p.m. with the 100m hurdles. The other events on the opening day of the Heptathlon are the high jump (3:45 p.m.), shot put (5:45 p.m.) and the 200m hurdles (9:43 p.m.).
The second day of the Heptathlon on Saturday, June 10, begins at 4 p.m. with the long jump. The final two events of the Heptathlon are the javelin at 5:15 p.m. and the 800m at 9:43 p.m.
O'Handley is the first Tulane female to ever qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the Heptathlon. She is the first Tulane female athlete to reach NCAA's during the outdoor season since 2019 when Rebekah Markel qualified in the pole vault. O'Handley is attempting to be Tulane's first Outdoor All-American since Markel in 2019. She is also attempting to be the first Tulane track and field athlete to be both an Indoor and Outdoor All-American in the same season since Jasmine Blocker in the 400m during the 2016 campaign.
