
Track & Field Has Eight Selected To CSC’s Academic All-District ® Team

Greenwood, Indiana – The Tulane track & field/cross country program saw eight of its student-athletes honored nationally as members of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District ® Division I Track & Field / Cross Country Team, the organization announced today.
Tulane's eight Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District ® selections this year are sophomore Arturs Lapins, graduate student Jon Lloyd, graduate student Bradley Makuvire, senior Maren Butler, graduate student Kristen O'Handley, graduate student Victoria Robinson, senior Kara Schiek and graduate student Kara Steele. The eight are the first Tulane track & field / cross country student-athletes to be chosen Academic All-District since the 2017-18 campaign when Lauren Bartels took home the honor.
Overall since 2001, Tulane now has had 13 Academic All-District ® selection (Birka Wicks – 2003-04, Helmi Lappanen – 2005, Helmi Lappanen – 2006, Lauren Bartels – 2017, Lauren Bartels – 2018, Arturs Lapins – 2023, Jon Lloyd – 2023, Bradley Makuvire – 2023, Maren Butler – 2023, Kristen O'Handley – 2023, Victoria Robinson – 2023, Kara Schiek – 2023 and Kara Steele - 2023).
In order to be a member of CSC's Academic All-District Team, all eight student-athlete needed to have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or above, be a sophomore or higher in academic class plus are required to have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions this season.
The College Sports Communicators, formerly the College Sports Information Director of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes track & field/cross country honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Tulane's eight Academic All-District ® honorees now advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late June.
Tulane has had three Academic All-Americans in the school's history in Lauren Bartels– 2018 – 2nd team, Ralph Junis – 1997 – 1st team and Will Junis – 1996 – 1st team.
