
Volleyball Falls to Stephen F. Austin

The Green Wave Volleyball team dropped the second match of the season, 3-1, to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon at the Jaguar Classic in Mobile, Alabama.
Freshman, outside hitter, Avery Burks, led the Green Wave in kills with 15. Following closely behind was graduate outside hitter, Amarachi Osuji. She finished the match with 12 kills.
Transfer setter, Laura Fiabane, showed her dominance at the position once again with a 37 kill performance. Freshman setter, Zoe Rachow, got her first collegiate time as a setter and picked up 6 assists in the match.
Defensively, Burks led the team in digs with 17. Graduate libero, Lauryn Burrows, finished with 15 digs.
In the first set, the Green Wave started off hot putting up 3 points quickly with kills from Osuji and Burks. Stephen F. Austin remained on the Green Wave's tail throughout the set. However, the Green Wave was able to find their rhythm and claim the set 25-22. Burks finished the set with six kills and a .429 hit percentage.
The second set was also a very closely fought battle. The Green Wave struck first with a double block from Orsula Staka and Agata Beksha. However, every Green Wave point did not come unanswered from Stephen F. Austin. The Green Wave came within striking distance, trailing by one at 11-10. However, Tulane could not quite hang on and ended up losing the set 25-19.
The third set brought much back and forth play. The Green Wave answered all of Stephen F. Austin's points and tied the game 13-13. However, Stephen F. Austin fought a hard match and the Green Wave trailed for the remainder. Steven F. Austin ended up claiming the set, 25-19.
In the fourth set, Stephen F. Austin carried their momentum over from the second and third sets. The Green Wave remained within striking distance at a close 14-12, but could not take away any of Stephen F. Austin's momentum. Stephen F. Austin claimed the final set 25-17.
The Green Wave will have another quick turn around and take on South Alabama tomorrow in the final day of the Jaguar Classic. The game will be at 12:00 pm and streamed on ESPN+.
