
No. 12 Bowling On the Road at Stormin’ Blue and White Classic This Week

New Orleans –The No. 12 ranked Tulane University bowling team restarts the team's schedule this week with a trip to Las Vegas for the Stormin' Blue and White Classic at South Point. The event is being hosted by Mount St. Mary's. The tournament goes from January 8-10. The first day of action, Jan. 8, begins at 12:55 p.m. CT. The second day, Jan. 9, has a 11:55 a.m. CT start time. The final day of tournament, Jan. 10, starts at 10 a.m. CT
The other 19 teams in the field this weekend includes 13 ranked teams. Among those competing are Adelphi, No. 8 Duquesne, Jackson State, No. 1 Jacksonville State, No. 4 Louisiana Tech, No. 14 Maryland Eastern Shore, No. 10 Maryville, No. 13 Merrimack, No. 15 Mount St. Mary's, No. 7 Nebraska, No. 18 Newman, No. 20 Oklahoma Christian, Prairie View A&M, Southern, Saint Anselm, No. 9 Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, No. 19 Valparaiso and No. 2 Vanderbilt.
The Stormin' Blue and White Classic will follow the standard 13-match rotation this weekend. There will be five Baker matches on Monday beginning at 12:55 p.m. CT and total pinfalls will determine the winners in each head-to-head match. Five traditional matches will follow on Tuesday starting at 11:55 a.m. CT with pinfall again determining the winners. The total pins from the first 10 matches of the tournament will determine seeding for the bracket play on Wednesday, which again begins at 8 a.m. CT with traditional team play and be followed at 11:30 a.m. with bracket play. The bracket matches will be contested in a best-of-seven Baker format
Monday, 12:55 p.m. – Five Baker matches
Tuesday, 11:55 a.m. – Five traditional matches
Wednesday, 10 a.m. – Traditional Team Match / Three best-of-seven Baker matches.
On the first day of competition, Tulane starts against Stephen F. Austin in lanes 39-40. In match two, the program squares off against Southern in lanes 37-38. In the third match, Tulane takes on Maryville in lanes 33-34. The fourth match sees the Green Wave against Saint Anslem in lanes 51-52. The fifth match is a matchup against Jacksonville State in lanes 57-58.
The second day of the tournament, for traditional play, sees Tulane starting the day against Mt. Saint Mary's on lanes 55-56 in the sixth match. In the second match of the day, and the seventh match overall, the program takes on Adelphi in lanes 53-54. In the third match of the day, and the eighth overall, Tulane and Merrimack square off in lanes 49-50. The fourth match of the day, and the ninth overall, sees Tulane and Oklahoma Christian competing against each other in lanes 35-36. The fifth match of the day, and the 10th overall, is against Duquesne in lanes 51-52
The Green Wave will compete against five fellow Conference USA schools at the tournament in Jacksonville State, Louisiana Tech, Stephen F. Austin, Valparaiso and Vanderbilt.
The first, second and third place teams will be awarded the team awards.
Ten individuals that accumulate the highest pin fall totals during the traditional team games will earn a position on one of two all-tournament teams. The MVP award is given to the individual with the highest tournament average.
Last time out at the Motiv Ladyjack Classic from Nov. 10-12, the program finished eighth overall with an 8-5 record. The team totaled 12,634 pins and averaged 191.4 pins. Kristen Derr was the team's top finisher in 12th place with 1,041 pins and an average of 208.20. Morgan Gitlitz also finished in the top 30 at 27thh with 995 pins and her average of 199.
On the season, Kristen Derr has the team's most pins at 5,219 and average at 200.7. She also has the highest game on the squad with her 266 at the SWIBC Tournament. Additionally, Derr has the most completed frames on the squad (376), single pin spares (83), strikes (201), average a frame (20.54) and percentage of total frames (93%).
This year's Tulane roster features six returners in Morgan Gitlitz, Yarelis Alvarez, Sofiia Druchyna, Katharina Mente, Mia Stolakis, Cassidy Williams plus four newcomers in Juanelyz Solla, Emma Fetterman, Kristen Derr and Linnea Holcomb.
Following this weekend's action, the next time the program is back on lanes is from January 19-21 at the Northeast Classic in South, New Jersey.
