Burdell, Friedler Post Wednesday Wins at ITA Southern Regional

BATON ROUGE, LA – Tulane's Charlie Burdell and Asaf Friedler both recorded singles victories in the qualifying draw of the ITA Southern Regional on Wednesday.
Burdell topped UNO's Julian Franzmann 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (4) in the morning, but then fell to Benjamin Martin of Ole Miss 6-2, 7-6 in the afternoon.
Friedler outlasted UNO's Matthew Armbruster 14-12 in the first set tiebreaker and then cruised 6-1 in the second set. However, he was turned aside in the afternoon as well by Louisiana's Leonard Tramolay 6-4, 6-4.
Vincent Vohl dropped a pair of contests on Wednesday, first to Troy's Luciano Alcocer 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 and then by a 2-6, 6-4 (10-7) tally to the Ragin' Cajuns' Darius Balan.
In Thursday's main draw, Luka Petrovic is in action against Alabama's Roan Jones at noon, while Luc Hoeijmans plays Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes of Mississippi State at 1:30 p.m.
Doubles will begin earlier in the day on Thursday, with three Tulane teams scheduled for action. At 9 a.m., Hoeijmans and Petrovic will comprise one team and will face Samford's Sebastian Harrison and Hayden Khoo Menon. Also at 9 will be the Green Wave's Burdell and Steve Rice against the Bulldogs' Ferrer Guimaraes and Marshall Landry.
Friedler and Vohl square off with North Alabama's Izan Orgiles and Nazar Fedoryshyn at 10 a.m.
The action is scheduled to continue through Monday.
