
Swimming & Diving Earns a Pair of AAC Weekly Awards

IRVING, TX – The Tulane swimming and diving team earned a pair of weekly awards by the American Athletic Conference (AAC), the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Andrea Zeebe was named the AAC's Swimmer of the Week after leading the program in the dual meet against Liberty over the weekend from Oct. 18-19. Zeebe contributed the most points on the team with victories in the 100 back (55.62) and the 400 IM (4:26.31). She also led off the second-place medley relay group (26.66 & 56.12). Additionally, she finished third in both the 200 free swimming with a lifetime best performance (1:52.29) and the 200 back (2:03.07) which she swam just five minutes after leading off the 400 relay. Zeebe's times over the weekend place her in the top three in the conference in all her events. The multi-talented swimmer is currently No. 1 in the 100 back, second in the 200 back, second in the 400 IM and third in the 200 free. She also leads the 200 IM (2:03.07), which was obtained against Vanderbilt to start the season.
Freshman Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou was named the AAC Freshman Swimmer of the Week after helping lead Tulane in the dual meet against Liberty over the weekend from Oct. 18-19. The freshman standout swam her way to the victory in the 200 fly against the Flames (2:01.47). Her time currently leads the AAC and ranks her No. 7 all-time at Tulane in the event. She also finished second in the 100 fly with a lifetime-best performance (56.95). Additionally, she contributed to the team by finishing fifth in the 400 IM (4:31.12). Both her 100 fly and 400 IM times put her marks among the top-eight in the AAC.
Zeebe is the second Tulane swimmer to be honored as the AAC's Swimmer of the Week this season following Catherine Russo. Overall, Zeebe is the fifth Tulane swimmer to be named the AAC's Swimmer of the Week (Catherine Russo – Oct. 22, 2024; Victoria Raymond – Oct. 10, 2023; Kate McDonald – Dec. 15, 2020 and Feb. 12, 2019 and Paris Zhang – Jan. 20, 2018). Her being named makes her the 12th different individual that has been named a conference swimmer of the week in the program's history along with Catherine Russo (2024 – AAC), Victoria Raymond (2023 - AAC), Kate McDonald (2020 & 2019 - AAC), Paris Zhang (2018 - AAC), Elizabeth Cook (2015 – CUSA), Mia Schachter (2014 – CUSA), Kayla Alf-Huynh (2011 x 2 – CUSA), Samantha Berdine (2005 – CUSA), Linda McEachrane (2004 – CUSA), Sarah Dicharry (2004 – CUSA) and Leslie Christian (2004 – CUSA).
Petropoulou is the first Tulane swimmer to ever be honored as the Freshman Swimmer of the Week as the 2024 season marks the first campaign that the award has been handed out.

Next Tulane gets on the road and takes part in a pair of meets in the state of Texas from Nov. 1-2. The program starts the weekend with a dual meet against Rice at the Rice Aquatics Center Natatorium on Friday, Nov. 1, at 4 p.m. The team then has dual meets against the University of Houston and LSU on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the CRWC Natatorium at a yet be announced start time
Tulane's swimming program had an outstanding 2023-24 season that resulted in 64 lifetime bests, 31 all-time top-10 school marks, four school records, an AAC individual title, an AAC Freshman of the Year Award, 11 National Invite Championship Qualifiers, a Zone Diver Qualifier and an NCAA qualifier. The program is returning 13 swimmer and divers from last season and added a newcomer class of 11 for Coach Caldwell's third season in charge of the program. Tulane placed sixth at the 2024 AAC Championships with 379 points and were ranked fourth in the conference's 2024-25 Preseason Coaches Poll.
