Wave Back in Action at ITA Southern Regional Championships

AUBURN, AL – The Tulane women's tennis team will its second action of the fall this weekend when it takes part in the ITA Southern Regional Championships, hosted by Auburn University.
The competition, which will be held Thursday-Tuesday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, is open to players from any school in the ITA Southern Region, which includes all Division I universities from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
For the first time, something more than just a regional crown will be up for grabs from the tournament. The two players who reach the finals in the singles main draw will earn a bid to the NCAA Singles Championship while the doubles team that wins the main draw will receive a bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship. Both championships will be held November 19-24 in Waco, Texas.
Sixteen (16) players will advance from the qualifying round to earn a spot in the 64-player singles main draw, which will begin on Friday. Fifty (50) doubles teams will participate in the doubles main draw that is scheduled to begin on Friday morning.
The Green Wave's entire roster will be in action, with Jiayun Zhu (9 a.m.), Natalia Fantini (10:30 a.m.), Brooke Theis (11 a.m.) and Summer Chandler (12 p.m.) all set to hit the courts Thursday morning in the singles qualifying draw.
Fantini and Theis comprise one doubles team on Friday and will play at 9 a.m. Friday. Chandler and Micah Pierce are also scheduled to get underway at 9, while Zhu and Delanie Tribby start at 9:45. Leigh Van Zyl and Campbell Ricci have received a first-round bye and will play at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
