NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's tennis team (2-6) clinched two victories in a doubleheader against Ole Miss (4-4) and Southern University (0-4), marking a historic win as the first time in history the Green Wave defeated Ole Miss.
In the first match against Ole Miss, Tulane started strong, securing the doubles point with wins from the court two pair, Benji Jacobson and Billy Suarez (6-1), and the court three pair, Luka Petrovic and Sam Scherer (6-4).
Carrying their momentum into singles play, four members of the Green Wave triumphed over the Rebels. Luka Petrovic dominated Ole Miss' Isac Stromberg on court three, winning in straight sets (6-2, 6-4). Following suit, Luc Hoeijmans overcame Brice Patoux on court five (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) to maintain Tulane's lead.
On court two, Alex Bancila secured the historic victory for the Green Wave by defeating J. Hallquist Lithen (6-1, 4-6, 6-3). Fynn Kuenkler sealed the win by overcoming Lukas Engelhardt (5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (11-9)) on court four.
The celebration was brief as Tulane faced Southern University immediately after. Due to a shortage of players, Southern could only compete in two doubles matches. Sam Scherer and Alec Gaudin swiftly defeated Southern's Jaiden Dominguez and Gabriel Inyang 6-0 on court two. Despite a tough battle, Tulane's Hady Elkordy and Benji Jacobson emerged victorious with a 7-5 win over Southern's Barnabas Kalaba and Lwazi Ngwenya, securing the doubles point.
With the Jaguars defaulting two singles points, Tulane dominated courts 1-4, securing a comprehensive 7-0 victory.
Tulane will return to action on Sunday against another SEC opponent, Mississippi State.
