Feb 27, 2024 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball (13-13, 4-10) aims to end a four-game losing streak on Wednesday night as it welcomes North Texas (14-12, 7-7) into Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave has not lost five consecutive games since the 2019-20 season.
Â
The game between the Green Wave and the Mean Green is set to tipoff at 6 p.m. on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 104.1 The Spot with the Voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.
Â
This marks the fourth all-time meeting between the Green Wave and the Mean Green with Tulane leading in the series 2-1. Tulane dropped the first matchup against North Texas this season 70-56 in Denton on January 6. The Wave has never faced the Mean Green in Uptown. The last time Tulane beat North Texas came on March 12, 2014, 66-61 at the Conference USA Championships in El Paso, Texas.
Â
In its last time out, Tulane dropped its fourth consecutive game after losing at home to UAB 78-67 on Sunday. The loss marked the first time the Green Wave has lost four games in a row since the 2020-21 season. It was also the first time Tulane has lost back-to-back games at home since losing five-straight during the 2020-21 campaign. Kevin Cross led the Wave in scoring against the Blazers finishing with 18 points while Sion James tallied 13 points.
Â
With his 13-point performance against UAB James eclipsed 1,000 career points to become the 39th player in program history to reach that plateau. He currently has 1,009 career points at Tulane and joins teammates Jaylen Forbes (1,782) and Kevin Cross (1,433) in the 1,000-point club within the program.
Â
North Texas enters the matchup on a two-game losing streak after falling 64-62 at home to UTSA on Saturday. The Mean Green leads the AAC in scoring defense (61.2), field goal percentage defense (39.8), and three-point percentage (36.9). Three players average double figures in scoring for North Texas led by Jason Edwards who ranks third in the conference at 18.9 points per game.
Â
Following the game against North Texas, the Green Wave will travel to the Sunshine State to face Florida Atlantic on Saturday, March 2. The game between Tulane and the Owls is set to tipoff at 11 a.m. CT on ESPNU.
