Feb 5, 2024 | Women's Basketball
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Tulane's Amira Mabry was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week from Jan. 29 – Feb. 4, the organization announced this afternoon.
In leading the women's basketball team to a 2-0 record on the week in a pair of conference contests, Mabry averaged 18 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. She shot a scalding 72.2 percent from the field (13-for-18), 40 percent from beyond the arc (2-for-5) and 88.9 percent from the free throw line (8-for-9). She had a total of eight rebounds, an assist, and a block on the week. She started her week leading the team with 21 points in the comeback victory over Charlotte. Mabry scored the game-tying basket with just 18 seconds remaining and followed that up with the high-pressure free throw to give Tulane the lead in what would be a 70-68 victory. In the team's trip back near her hometown in Texas, Mabry led the charge with 15 points in the 75-64 victory over UTSA. She shot 6-for-8 from the field and went 2-for-3 from three-point range.
Mabry has now scored in double figures in 12 games this year including the last seven.
On the season, Mabry is averaging 10.2 points per game while shooting a team-leading 55.2 percent from the field. She also is placed second on the team with 40 offensive rebounds and third overall with her average of 5.2 rebounds per game. In conference-only games, Mabry is second on the club with her average of 13.7 points and 5.4 rebounds a contest while shooting 53.4 percent from the field.
She is the fourth Tulane Women's Basketball Player to be honored by the LSWA this season as Kyren Whittington was recognized on Dec. 11, Marta Galic on Jan. 2 and Hannah Pratt on Jan. 17.
Next, Tulane continues American Athletic Conference (AAC) play and hosts UAB (16-6, 7-3 AAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Devlin Fieldhouse at 6 p.m.
