
Wave Sweeps Wednesday Doubleheader

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – On the final day of its West Coast swing Tulane University beach volleyball (17-7) went a perfect 2-0 on Wednesday at Cal State Northridge in Northridge, California. The Green Wave outlasted CSUN in the first dual of the day 3-2 before rolling past Cal State Bakersfield 4-1 to close the day.

The midweek doubleheader for the Wave opened with the first-ever meeting between Tulane and the CSUN Matadors. The Green Wave got on the board first behind a two-set victory by Samantha Green and Skylar Ensign on court four before CSUN evened the score 1-1 with a win on court two. Lara Torruella and Sam O'Connor reclaimed the lead for Tulane by taking the point on court three in three sets, but once again the Matadors answered winning on court one to tie the match at two points apiece. The match came down to court five and the duo of Amelia Mullen and McKenzie Cutler were up to the challenge for the Wave. Mullen and Cutler outlasted their opponents in three sets to clinch the 3-2 match victory for Tulane.

In the second matchup of the doubleheader the Green Wave squared off against Cal State Bakersfield for the first time in program history. Once again Tulane jumped out to the early advantage thanks to a three-set win by Green and S. Ensign on court four. The Roadrunners briefly tied the match by taking the point on court two before Mullen and Cutler put the Wave back on top with a two-set win on court five. Sara Hall and Molly Trodd delivered the clinching point for Tulane on court one winning in two sets. The Wave tacked on one more point from Torruella and Tawny Ensign on court three to make it a final score of 4-1 in favor of Tulane.

Up next, the Green Wave will return home to host the Bayou Beach Duals at White Sands Volleyball Courts on Saturday April 6. Tulane will face New Orleans and McNeese State in the one-day event.
