Green Wave Takes Top Two Spots in Garner Tullis Team Race
Mar 3, 2024 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – On the first weekend of racing for the spring 2024 campaign Tulane University sailing secured the top two spots and three of the top four in the Green Wave's lone home regatta – the Garner Tullis Team Race. The Wave also had a team in action in Charleston, South Carolina, this weekend but limited wind held the Phebe Corckran King Women's Team Race to just five rotations.
Â
Tulane was represented by three teams in the Garner Tullis Team Race on Lake Pontchartrain this weekend. Team Green Wave claimed first place in the regatta finishing with a perfect 14-0 record including going 6-0 on Sunday. Skippers Hamilton Barclay, Zander King, Kelly Holthus, and Jack Solmo with crew CJ Ricci, Alex Makoid, and Ella May Corckran swept through the field with two wins against every other team on the water.
Â
Landing in second place in the regatta was team Angry Wave led by skippers Matheo Capasso, Audrey Permenter, John Wood, and Bobby Rielly alongside crew Essie Clifton, Caitlin Briggs, and Claire Lewis. The squad ended with a 12-2 overall record with its only losses coming against Tulane's Green Wave team.
Â
Team Green Wave Women moved up one spot from Saturday to fourth in the Garner Tullis Team Race with a 7-7 record. The team is led by skippers Ashley Hoguet, Mira Herlihy, and Lucy Spearman with crew Caroline Caudron, Raquel Shulman, Megan Cassidy, and Sophia Adams.
Â
Tulane ultimately ended in fourth out of four teams with a 1-4 mark at the Phebe Corckran King Women's Team Race after the regatta was limited to just five total rotations on Saturday.
Â
Up next, the Green Wave will travel to the northeast to compete in the John Jackson Team Race in Washington, D.C., and the Navy Women's Team Race in Annapolis, Maryland, on March 9-10.
