Tulane Sits Second for Oberg Trophy & Seventh for Thompson Trophy

NEW ORLEANS – In the final regattas of the regular season Tulane University sailing holds second place at the Oberg Trophy Fleet Race and seventh place at the Thompson Trophy Team Race after the first day of racing on Saturday.

On the waters of the Charles River in Boston the Green Wave closed the first day of competition in the Oberg Trophy Fleet Race with 125 total points to sit in second place. Tulane was paced by its sailors in the A and C Divisions on Saturday as each group finished with 34 points. Thad Lettsome, Sammie Gardner, Ellie Spearman, and Abigail Borggaard led the Wave in the A Division landing in third in the division through six rotations. In the C Division Mia Hanes, Mira Herlihy, and Sloane Mullin teamed up to finish the day in third through seven rotations in the division. The racing of Ava Anderson and Cate Anderson posted 57 points in the B Division for the Green Wave to sit fifth in the division through eight rotations.

Meanwhile, in New London, Connecticut, Tulane landed in seventh out of eight teams when racing ended Saturday at the Thompson Trophy Team Race. Skippers Hamilton Barclay, Zander King, and Kelly Holthus teamed with crews CJ Ricci, Alex Makoid, and Gillian Perrell to post a 3-11 record with two wins over Connecticut College and one over MIT.

Up next, the Green Wave will conclude competition at the Oberg Trophy Fleet Race and the Thompson Trophy Team Race on Sunday. Racing is scheduled to begin by 9 a.m. CT for the Oberg Trophy while competition will start at 9:15 a.m. CT for the Thompson Trophy.
