NEW ORLEANS – On the final day of the regular season for Tulane University beach volleyball (22-12) the Green Wave earned a split in its final regular season duals on Saturday at White Sands Volleyball Courts. The Wave dropped its first match of the day to conference-foe UAB before closing the year with a win over an in-state rival to finish 2-2 in the NOLA Classic.
Following its senior day ceremonies Tulane hit the sand to square off against fellow Conference USA member UAB Saturday morning. The Blazers were the first team on the board with a two-set win at flight two. The Wave answered back at flight four as Samantha Green and Skylar Ensign won in two sets to even the dual at 1-1.
However, UAB flipped the momentum right back in its favor with victories at flights one and three to clinch the dual win. Tulane ultimately dropped the dual 4-1 to the Blazers after losing the final point at flight five.
In the final dual of the weekend and the final dual for the regular season the Wave battled in-state foe Louisiana-Monroe Saturday afternoon. Green and S. Ensign were the first pair to put the Green Wave on the board again giving Tulane the early 1-0 advantage with a two-set win at flight four. S. Ensign led the offensive attack for the duo with 14 kills and six aces against the Warhawks.
After Louisiana-Monroe responded to take a 2-1 advantage with win at flight two and five, Trinity Jackson and Molly Trodd earned their third win of the weekend at flight one to tie the dual at 2-2.
The Wave's last dual of the regular season came down to a three-set battle at flight three with Lara Torruella and Sam O'Connor. Torruella and O'Connor outlasted the duo for the Warhawks in the third set for 15-13 win to clinch the 3-2 dual victory for the Green Wave.
Up next, Tulane compete in the C-USA 2024 Beach Volleyball Championship in Youngsville, Louisiana. The Green Wave will enter the tournament the five seed and face the four seed UAB on Thursday, April 25, at 1 p.m.
