Women's Tennis Wins Key Conference Match Over UNT
Apr 7, 2024 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS - Women's Tennis won a key conference matchup over UNT 4-2 during Senior Day on Sunday at City Park to advance to 11-7 on the spring season.
The Green Wave dominated in doubles, with two senior duos in Yelamanchili/Borland and Barber/Clark winning their matches 6-1 and 6-2 on courts one and two to clinch the doubles point, giving Tulane the early 1-0 lead over the Mean Green.
In singles, Tulane took the first two points courtesy of Theis, who won her match 6-1, 6-4 on court six, and Yelamanchili, who won her match 77-62, 6-2 on court one, taking the tally to 3-0 in favor of the Green Wave. The Mean Green refused to go down without a fight, winning the next two points on courts two and three. Ultimately, UNT's fight proved too little, too late as Russell secured the clinching point for Tulane on court five after a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win in the third set. The match marked Russell's second key-clinch after she previously clinched the historic 4-0 win over Mississippi State in late February.
The Green Wave isn't done at home quite yet, with their last match at City Park scheduled for Wednesday at 2pm CST.Â
