
Tulane Finishes 11th in the 2024 ICSA Women’s Fleet Race National Championship

BOSTON – Tulane University sailing landed in 11th place out of 18 teams in the 2024 ICSA Women's Fleet Race National Championship on Thursday. The Green Wave posted 20 finishes in the top 10 including two wins in the two-day finals on the water of the Charles River.

Tulane recorded a total score of 333 through 17 rotations in the regatta. The Wave was paced by the A Division which ended with a total of 143 to land sixth in the division. In the B Division the Green Wave finished with a total of 190 which ranked 13th in the division.

Sammie Gardner paired with Lucy Spearman and Gillian Perrell throughout the regatta for Tulane in the A Division. The duo of Gardner and Spearman recorded a pair of wins included in nine finishes in the top 10 in 14 races together. Perrell joined Gardner on the water for three races and posted a pair of top five finishes including a second-place performance in the final race of the regatta in the division.

In the B Division the Green Wave was paced by the combination of Mia Hanes, Ellie Spearman, Lucy Spearman, and Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez. Hanes and E. Spearman hit the water together for 13 of the 17 races in the division and posted seven finishes in the top 10 including two in the top three. Tulane added two more top 10 finishes in the B Division behind the racing of Hanes with Riefkohl-Gonzalez to bring the Wave's total to nine in the division.

Up next, Tulane will begin competition in the 2024 ICSA Open Fleet Race Eastern Semifinals on Friday. Racing is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. CT with the Wave competing in a field of 18 to advance to the finals which start on Sunday.
