Lexington, Kentucky - Tulane track and field's Jack Jennings punched his ticket to the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 10,000m by placing 12th at the East First Round in Lexington, Kentucky on Wednesday evening.
Jennings ran a 29:23.94 to take 12th in the event. The top 12 finishers in the East First Round and the top 12 finishers in West First Round earn spots at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held from June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Jennings came into the meet ranked first in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and eighth in the region in the event.
He is the first Tulane student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships since Kristen O'Handley competed and finished as an All-American in the Heptathlon last season. He is the first Tulane male student-athlete to qualify for the outdoor championships since Emmanuel Rotich in the 3000m steeplechase in 2019. Jennings is just the fourth different male student-athlete to qualify for the outdoor championships since 2015 (Jennings – 2024, Rotich – 2019, 2018 and 2017, Raymond Kibet - 2017 and Devon Breaux - 2015).
Next the program will have Illia Kunin competing in the 5,000m on Friday evening at 7:10 p.m. at the NCAA East First Round in Lexington attempting to duplicate Jennings' championship qualifying feat and finish in the top 12 of his event.
