Tulane Wraps Competition at NCAA East First Round
May 30, 2026 | Track & Field
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Tulane completed its final event of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships First Round Saturday afternoon in which Cara Salsberry finished 35th in the women's discus. It was the Green Wave's sixth event of the weekend at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex, and the meet concludes with Silas Kiptanui as the lone Tulane athlete advancing to the national championships.
Salsberry was the only Wave athlete in action today, as she delivered a mark of 49.81m in the women's discus. She finished 35th in the event to round out the weekend for the Wave.
Tulane had athletes in action across all four days of the east regional. Day one saw Rogerio Amaral and Tommy Rice race in the men's 10,000m. Amaral placed 30th with a time of 29:58.53, and Rice was 42nd with a mark of 30:40.17. Salsberry competed in the first of her two throwing events on Thursday when she placed 22nd in the women's hammer throw. She hurled a 59.87m to best her own program record. That night, Blezzin Kimutai raced in the women's 10,000m and finished 21st with a time of 34:09.60. Silas Kiptanui made history yesterday in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, posting a mark of 8:18.09 to top the leaderboard and qualify for nationals in a second-straight campaign. His time broke his own record for both Tulane and the American Conference as well as setting a new record for the facility in Lexington. Salsberry's performance today capped off a full weekend of action for the Wave.
Kiptanui will be back in action in two weeks at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which are held in Eugene, Oregon, from June 10 to 13. Kiptanui will again compete in the steeplechase as he aims to claim an individual national title.
