Green Wave Tandem Completes Day Two of NCAA East Regional

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Tulane bookended the day at UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex as both Cara Salsberry and Blezzin Kimutai were in action Thursday for the second day of the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships First Round. The Green Wave duo each placed in the top 22 of their respective events with Salsberry leading off the day 22nd in the hammer throw while Kimutai closed the night in 21st for the 10,000m.
The day opened with the women's hammer throw, in which Cara Salsberry delivered her best performance of the season despite missing out on qualifying for the finals in Eugene, Oregon. Salsberry hurled a mark of 59.87m, a personal best that elevates her own program record, which she previously set at 59.54m. She finished 22nd in the event, 10 spots away from the qualification zone.
In the nightcap, Blezzin Kimutai hit the track for the women's 10,000m. She delivered another performance in the top half for Tulane as her mark of 34:09.60 placed her 21st, just nine spots shy of national qualification.
Tulane will be in action again each of the next two days with just one event each day. Tomorrow, Silas Kiptanui will race in the men's 3,000m steeplechase at 4:40 p.m. CT. The weekend will conclude for Tulane on Saturday as Salsberry competes in the women's discus at 12:00 p.m. CT.
