Track and Field’s Illia Kunin Competed in the 5,000m at NCAA East First Round on Friday

Lexington, Kentucky - Tulane track and field's Illia Kunin competed, but was unable to finish the 5,000m on the third day of the NCAA East First Round in Lexington, Kentucky on Friday night.
Kunin ran in the second heat of the competition, but registered a did not finish (DNF). He came into the meet ranked third in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and ranked 35th in the East Region in the 5,000m with his school record time of 13:46.94 also achieved at the Raleigh Relays.
On Wednesday, Jack Jennings punched his ticket to the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 10,000m by placing 12th overall in the East First Round.
Jennings ran a 29:23.94 to take 12th in the event. The top 12 finishers in the East First Round and the top 12 finishers in West First Round earn spots at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held from June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Jennings came into the meet ranked first in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and eighth in the region in the event.
He is the first Tulane student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships since Kristen O'Handley competed and finished as an All-American in the Heptathlon last season. He is the first Tulane male student-athlete to qualify for the outdoor championships since Emmanuel Rotich in the 3000m steeplechase in 2019. Jennings is just the fourth different male student-athlete to qualify for the outdoor championships since 2015 (Jennings – 2024, Rotich – 2019, 2018 and 2017, Raymond Kibet in 2017 and Devon Breaux in 2015).
Next the program will send Jennings to the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from June 5-8. He is set to compete in the 10,000m on Wednesday, June 5, at 9:08 p.m. on the campus of the University of Oregon at Hayward Field.
