
Women’s Tennis Signs Transfer Leigh van Zyl

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University women's tennis has announced the addition of transfer Leigh van Zyl to the program for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Van Zyl will join the Green Wave with two years of eligibility remaining.
A native of Paarl, South Africa, van Zyl spent the past two seasons playing at Clemson University. With the Tigers she tallied 24 singles victories, and 20 doubles wins during her first two collegiate seasons. She tied for the team lead with 19 singles wins last year including the match clinching victory over No. 22 Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.
Van Zyl also showcased her skills in the classroom at Clemson landing a selection to the 2024 All-ACC Academic team following her sophomore campaign.
Prior to her two seasons at Clemson, she ranked as the top U18 junior player in South Africa after reaching a career-high ITF World junior ranking of No. 125. She recorded five ITF Junior singles titles and eight ITF Junior doubles titles across 2021 and 2022. During her prep career in South Africa, van Zyl also reached the finals of the African Junior Championships in Tunisia and represented South Africa in the Fed Cup competition in 2022.
