Sep 10, 2024 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University sailing program announced its 2024 fall slate, which will feature a pair of home regattas, on Wednesday. The Green Wave is set to compete in 12 different regattas with the opportunity to qualify for a pair of championship events.
Â
Tulane will begin its fall schedule at the University of Texas for the SEISA Singlehanded and Match Race Championships. The regatta will be hosted on Lake Travis from September 14-15.
Â
The following weekend, Tulane will host its first home regatta of the fall in the Sugar Bowl Open and Women's Fleet Races. The Wave will host the regatta on Lake Pontchartrain September 21-22. Tulane claimed first place in both the open and women's competition each of the last two seasons in 2022 and 2023.
Â
On the final weekend of September, the Wave will hit the road for two separate regattas from September 28-29. The Green Wave women's team will travel to Cranston, Rhode Island, for the Women's ACC Round 1 hosted by Brown. Meanwhile, the Tulane coed crew will venture to New London, Connecticut, to race for the Danmark Trophy hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Tulane will continue its journey on the road through the month of October. For the first weekend of the month, October 5-6, the Wave will send a squad to St. Mary's, Maryland, for the Open ACC Round 1 while another crew will head to New London, Connecticut, for the Stu Nelson Trophy.
Â
The following weekend the Green Wave will deploy its women's team for the Women's ACC Finals hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Maryland, from October 12-13. The Tulane coed squad will be in Kings Point, New York, the same weekend to compete for the Nevins Trophy hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Â
From October 19-20 Tulane will race in the Open ACC Finals and the Oberg Fleet Race. The Open ACC Finals will be hosted by Boston College in Boston while the Oberg Fleet Race will be held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and hosted by MIT.
Tulane will conclude the month of October with a trip back to Austin, Texas, for the SEISA Fall Championships from October 26-27. The Green Wave swept the SEISA Fall Championships in 2023 to make it four consecutive sweeps of the regatta.
Â
On November 2 the Wave will return home to host the Baldwin Wood regatta on the waters of Lake Pontchartrain.
Â
The ICSA Singlehanded Championship and Match Race Championship will conclude the fall season for Tulane. The singlehanded championship will be hosted by South Florida on November 9-10 followed by the match race championship in Oyster Bay, New York, on November 15-17.
