AUSTIN, Texas – Tulane sailing opened its fall campaign with a clean sweep of the SEISA Match Race and Singlehanded Championships on Lake Travis over the weekend. The Green Wave was unblemished in its trek to repeat as the SEISA Match Race champions while Ava Anderson repeated as the SEISA Women's Singlehanded champion and Matheo Capasso claimed the SEISA Open Singlehanded title.
On Saturday, the Wave hit the waters of Lake Travis to square off against Rice, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas A&M at Galveston to compete for the SEISA Match Race Championship. Skipper Kelly Holthus teamed with crew Ava Anderson, Martha Hughes, and Zander King to post an undefeated record through nine races in the regatta and claim the championship for Tulane.
The SEISA Singlehanded Championships were both held on Sunday with the open championship taking the water first. The Green Wave was represented by Matheo Capasso and Zander King in the regatta. Capasso secured the title by recording two first-place finishes and one second place result to finish with a total of four points in three races. King finished third overall in the field of six sailors posting a total of 12 points.
Ava Anderson rolled into the women's singlehanded championship with her eyes on a second-straight title. She ultimately proved up to the challenge of repeating as the champion as she finished first in all three races to end the championship with three total points and win her second SEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship. Following right behind Anderson was Oakley Cunningham for the Wave finishing second overall with six total points. Ashley Hoguet rounded out the regatta for Tulane in third place with nine points in the field of five in the women's singlehanded championship.
