
Tulane Sweeps Sugar Bowl Fleet Races

NEW ORLEANS – In the second weekend of the fall season Tulane sailing secured its second regatta sweep by winning the Allstate Sugar Bowl Open and Women's Fleet Races on Sunday. Team Green Wave claimed the top spot in the open fleet race while team Green Wave Women finished first in the women's fleet race.

Kelly Holthus paced team Green Wave with Helena English and Caitlin Briggs in the A Division of the open fleet race. The trio finished with 67 total points in the 14-race regatta which ranked second among all teams. In the B Division, John Wood and Alex Makoid helped secure the first-place finish with 78 total points for team Green Wave.

The top sailors in the open fleet race represented team Riptide for the Wave. Zander King, Christian Ebbin, Mary Carter, and Sabrina Anderson combined to finish with 64 points in the B Division. Ebbin also earned the top skipper award in the open fleet race. Matheo Capasso teamed with Essie Clifton in the A Division for team Riptide and post 115 total points to help the team finish third overall.

In the women's fleet race, Sammie Gardner paired with Hope Breslin in the A Division and Ava Anderson raced with Ella May Corckran in the B Division to lead team Green Wave Women to first place in the regatta with 132 points. Gardner and Breslin finished second overall in the regatta with 65 points in the A Division while Anderson and Corckran followed right behind with 67 points in the B Division to land third.

Teams Riptide ended the women's fleet race in fourth with 230 points behind the racing of Mira Herlihy with Taylor Bartell in the B Division and the combination of Oakley Cunningham, Ashley Hoguet, Ellie Spearman, and Parker Kumler A Division.

Rounding out the regatta for Tulane was team Angry Wave in fifth with 259 total points. Lucy Spearman raced with Elizabeth Struve in the A Division and Lola Kohl paired with CJ Ricci to pace team Angry Wave on the water.

Up next, the Green Wave will hit the road for the Women's ACC Round 1 and the Danmark Trophy from September 28-29. The Women's ACC Round 1 regatta will be held in Providence, Rhode Island, while the Danmark Trophy will be hosted in New London, Connecticut.
