Skyers Named American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Middle Blocker Sabrina Skyers has been announced as the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The accolade follows her outstanding performance at the Pelican Invitational.
Over the weekend's three games, the junior achieved an astonishing total of 20 blocks, five of them solo. She tied her career-high eight blocks on Thursday, Sept. 19 against UC Riverside, then beat her record with nine blocks against Georgia State on Sept. 20.Â
After playing in all thirteen sets the Green Wave saw over the tournament, Skyers averaged 1.54 blocks per set. She had three solo blocks against UC Riverside alone. Her blocks against UC Riverside led the team to tie its season-high blocks in a game.Â
Skyers also shone offensively, landing 25 total kills and averaging 1.92 kills per set for a tournament hitting percentage of .375. Skyers was also the Tulane elect to the Pelican Invitational All-Tournament Team.
