
Green Wave Visits Rice Owls Saturday Afternoon

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball will look to bounce back into the win column as it visits the Rice Owls on Saturday in Houston. The Green Wave holds a 4-2 record in American Athletic Conference play this season but is just 1-2 so far on the road in league competition.

The matchup between the Wave and the Owls is set to tipoff at 1:30 p.m. on ESPNU. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 106.1 The Ticket and Heaven 106.7 with the voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the 53rd all-time meeting between Tulane and Rice with the Green Wave leading the series 28-24. Tulane has won each of the last four matchups against the Owls including an 84-59 victory at home last season on January 3, 2024. The Wave is 8-16 against Rice in Houston with its last road win over the Owls coming on February 23, 2013, by a final score of 89-64.

In its last time out, Tulane dropped just its second game in AAC play falling 77-80 on the road to Temple on Sunday, January 19. The Green Wave battled back from a nine-point deficit late in the second half to get a shot to tie the game at the buzzer, but the contested three by Rowan Brumbaugh fell short. Brumbaugh led the Wave in the contest with 20 points to go with seven assists and five steals. Mari Jordan and Kam Williams followed with 15 points each.

Through six games in conference play the Wave leads the league in field goal percentage, assists, and steals. Tulane is shooting 49.8 percent from the field in conference games and averaging 18.3 assists and 10.0 steals as a team.

Rice enters the matchup on a four-game losing streak after to Florida Atlantic 73-75 on the road on January 19. Following the loss to FAU the loss the Owls dropped to 11-8 overall and 2-4 mark in conference play this season. Trae Broadnax leads the Owls in scoring as the only player averaging double figures in points. Broadnax averages 13.4 points to go with 6.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

The Owls have been strong defensively and on the glass this season. Rice leads The American in field goal percentage at 40.1 percent and rank second in the league in scoring defense allowing 67.9 points per game and rebounds per game averaging 38.89. Graduate transfer
