
No. 24 Football’s Johnathan Galante Named A Nominee for Broyles Award

Hot Springs, AR – The No. 24 Tulane football team's special teams coordinator Johnathan Galante has been named a nominee for the 30th annual Broyles Award, the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation announced on Tuesday.
The Broyles Award honors college football's top assistant coaches.
Tulane's special teams unit is the best in the American Conference leading the league in net punting (42.48), made field goals (20) and field goal percentage (95.2) while ranking second in kick returns average (23.00). Tulane kicker Patrick Durkin leads the conference in field goals per game (1.82) and field goal percentage (95.2). His 20 field goals this year are already the fourth most in school history for a single season. He also has three made kicks of 50+ including a long of 52 against Temple. His average of 8.5 points per leads all kickers and is sixth among all players. He is fourth among all players in the league in scoring with 93 points. Alec Clark leads the conference and is ranked fourth nationally with his average of 47.5 yards per kick. Anthony Brown-Stephens is placed fifth in the conference in kick return average at 23.3 yards per return.
The 63 nominees in this year's class were selected from approximately 1,500 assistant coaches representing 131 FBS programs across the country. The Broyles Award selection process includes the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), broadcasters, a college football hall-of-fame selection committee, and current college head coaches.

A selection committee of distinguished former head coaches, broadcasters and a committee representing the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) will select 15 semifinalists, five finalists from the last of the nominees and an overall winner.
New for 2025
For the first time in the 30-year history of the Broyles Award, fans across America will have a direct voice in deciding which assistant coaches advance to the semifinalist round, finalist round, and ultimately who wins the award.
The Broyles Award Fan Vote launched on, Tuesday, November 25th at noon. Fans can cast votes for their favorite nominees throughout each stage of the competition. Each individual fan vote counts toward one collective "fan vote" in the official selection process of each round. Each vote is also an entry to win two VIP passes to the 30th Annual Broyles Award Ceremony.

The Broyles Award is presented by the Oaklawn, Hot Springs, Arkansas. The award was created in 1996 recognizing Coach Frank Broyles' legacy of selecting and developing great assistant coaches during his career as a head coach at Arkansas.

The Tulane football team (9-2, 6-1 American) has started the 2025 season with nine wins in the first 11 games including a pair of wins over Power 4 opponents in the regular season for the first time since 1988. The victory over Temple makes Tulane 6-1 or better in conference play for the fifth time in school history (2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, and 1934).This is only the sixth time the school has won six or more conference games between the time in the American, CUSA and SEC.
Tulane ended the 2024 season playing in the program's third consecutive bowl game. It was also the sixth time in the last seven years that Tulane had been selected to play in a bowl game (2018 – Cure Bowl, 2019 – Armed Forces Bowl, 2020 – Famous Idaho Bowl, 2022 – Cotton Bowl, 2023 – Military Bowl and 2024 – Gasparilla Bowl). Head Coach Jon Sumrall has been one of the most successful coaches in the country over the last four seasons with a record of 41-11, two Sun Belt Conference championships and a pair of double-digit winning streaks. He was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of Year and was twice named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year honor. Sumrall returned to Tulane after serving as the Green Wave's Co-Defensive Coordinator for three years (2012-14). In 2013, he was a crucial part of Tulane's run to the New Orleans Bowl, the program's first postseason appearance since 2002 and third since 1988. Sumrall also was named a finalist for FootballScoop Defensive Line Coach of the Year.
Next, the Tulane football team faces off against Charlotte (1-10, 0-7 American) on Nov. 29 at Yulman Stadium in the final game of the regular season at 6:30 p.m. in a game that will also be broadcasted on ESPNU.
