NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Tulane swimming and diving team fell to visiting Rice by a 172-128 score on Friday night at the Reily Center Natatorium. The program totaled six event victories, 20 top three finishes, 10 personal bests and 14 seasons bests on the afternoon.
"Tonight was about grit," Head Coach Amanda Caldwell explained. "We fell short in the team score, and Varvara's 200 fly and Andrea's 200 back set the tone, our 200 free relay fought to the wall, and Libby Brewer punching her ticket to Zones are just a few examples that show where this program is headed. Our Wave Makers keep raising the tide."
Eliza Lennox led the team on the day with pair of individual victories in the 50 free (23.28) and the 100 free (50.77).
Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou won the 200 fly (2:02.70). She also took second in the 1000 free (10:05.81).
Lise Coetzee earned the 200 free title (1:50.64). She also was the runner-up in the 500 free (4:59.85).
Libby Brewer won the 1-meter diving crown (278.70 pts.). She also placed second in the 3-meter diving (267.98). Her 1-meter score with an NCAA Zone Qualifying mark.
The 200 free relay team of Lennox, Rafaela Sumida, Olcaytu Hatipoglu and Petropoulou won their event with a 1:35.18.
Andrea Zeebe was second in both the 50 back (26.21) and the 100 IM (57.39). She was also part of the 400 medley relay team along with Paula Gaya Bisquerra, Lennox and Hatipoglu that took third with a 3:47.10.
Bisquerra took third in the 50 breast (29.95).
Hatipoglu earned third in the 50 free (24.06) and in the 50 fly (25.88).
Sumida placed third in the 200 free (1:52.24).
Nicole Fant earned third in the 50 back (26.58).
The 200 free relay team of Coetzee, Fant, Marin Shimkus and Phoebe Johnson placed third in their event (1:36.84).
Taylor Cekay earned third in the 1-meter dive (247.58 pts.).
Next Tulane travels to Baton Rouge on Saturday, Nov. 8, to participate in the LSU Quad Meet against the host school, Rice and Houston starting at 12 p.m.
The program finished the 2024-25 season with 54 top 10 school marks including 10 school records. The team also won six events, had 28 overall all conference marks, a placing of third overall at the league championship meet plus saw Head Coach Amanda Caldwell along with her staff being named the American's Coaching Staff of the Year. The program also had 10 qualify to participate in the National Championship Invitational this season, three divers that earned bids to the Zone D Diving Championship, had four swimmers named to the Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators and six that were CSCAA Scholar All-Americans. Additionally the program had nine NCAA 'B' cuts, placed fifth at the CSCAA Open Water Championships and rack up 10 American Conference Weekly honors (five swimmers of the week, two freshman swimmers of the week, two freshman divers of the week and one conference diver of the week).
