Wave Eliminates Wichita State, Rolls on to Quarterfinals

FORT WORTH – No. 6 Tulane Women's Basketball tipped off the American Athletic Conference Championships today with an 8:00 game against No. 11 Wichita State. The Wave came out on top 69-63 and will move on to the next tournament round.
On Monday, March 10, the Green Wave will take on No. 3 USF at 8:00 p.m. CT. The winning team will advance to the semifinals on Tuesday, March 11.
Victoria Keenan was awarded as the tournament's Player of the Game for her career-high point total of 26. Halfway through the second quarter, Keenan had perfect scoring stat line, going four for four on field goals and two for two on threes. She led in points for the Wave and ended the game with five three-pointers, seven rebounds, and seven out of seven free throws made.
Keenan now ranks in the top 10 for the NCAA in 3-point percentage, owning a number of 45.14%.
Amira Mabry scored double digits with 15 points and led Tulane in rebounds for the night with nine.
Wichita State was led by Salese Blow, who sunk 30 points and made 50% of field goal attempts. Princess Anderson and Jayla Murray also scored 10+ points with 13 and 10, respectively.
The Shockers won the first period 25-19, but the Wave closed the gap by halftime and trailed only one point at the checkpoint 33-34.
The Wave surged in the third, administering a 14-point lead after five minutes. The Shockers managed to reduce the Wave's lead to just three points during the fourth, but after neither team scored for four minutes, the Wave sealed the win with six free throws from Keenan and Kendall Sneed in the 30 seconds.
Tulane is now 3-0 over Wichita this season, previously beating them 68-64 at home and 66-62 on the road.
SCOUTING USF
USF will play its first game of the tournament against Tulane, having earned third round entry after finishing third in the conference.
Mama Dembele was awarded the AAC Defensive Player of the Year superlative. The graduate student has 76 defensive rebounds on the season and also earned 2023-24 All-SEC Defensive Team honors. She leads the Bulls in assists per game (5.4) and steals per game (2.4)
Sammie Puisis leads the Bulls' offense, averaging 15.3 points per game and totaling 459 this season. Carla Brito nambs the most rebounds at 5.1 per game.
